December Story Excerpt

"The woman gave him her hand. He held it as she stepped onto the plastic. She shook slightly as her foot gained balance on the cube. She let go of him and raised her hand overhead toward the peak of the tree. Her purple coat brushed with the green, and Michael had a strange sensation of watching someone morph into a butterfly, the large sleeves like wings stretching upward. The woman exposed her wrist as she extended and revealed delicate cobwebs of blue under her pale skin. Maybe Jane is right, Michael thought, watching her in the yellow glow. I fall in love too easily."
